Working with vector data in R

February 2, 2023 @ 01:00 - 16:00

Free

Using geospatial vector data in R used to be quite challenging. Not anymore. Join our workshop to see how to import, process and display geospatial data. You might not even need a conventional GIS software any more…

At the end of this workshop you will be able to

  • import geospatial vector data from different sources and file formats
  • merge and intersect geospatial objects
  • create buffers and spatial joins
  • calculate nearest neighbours
  • create nice-looking maps

Pre-requisites: “Introduction to Data Science with R”, McGill’s R summer camp equivalent.

This workshop will be held in person in classroom BH511 and takes about 2.5 to 3 hours. Registration is open until noon on the day of the workshop. The instructor will be Tim Elrick.
