Introduction to working with vector data in QGIS CANCELLED

QGIS is a free open-source software that offers an alternative to the ESRI ecosystem. It can create, edit, visualize, analyze and publish geospatial information on Windows, Mac, Linux, BSD and mobile devices.

By the end of this workshop, you will be able to

  • understand the principles of a GIS and the basics of geospatial data
  • understand the structure of QGIS and common data types used
  • work with attributes
  • Change projections
  • Calculate geometries
  • Join non-spatial data and get statistics
  • run overlay analysis (dissolve, buffer, intersection, split, merge)
  • display and design a map

Prerequisite: none. If you want to work on your own laptop, please install QGIS in the latest version on your computer beforehand from https://qgis.org

This workshop will take place in person in Burnside Hall BH511 and takes about 2.5 hours. The instructor will be Lilly Lecanu-Fayet.
