Assume you have a sense of what you can do with data in R. Now, you would be ready to use it – but how to get it? Some data is readily available to download, however, other is not. Some is ‘hidden’ in a deep website structure, other data only exists as webpages or only has API access.
In this workshop we show you how to easily access Statistics Canada, US census and Eurostat data. We will also use webscraping to collect data from a website and use an API to access data in R.
Prerequisites: Knowledge from workshop “Introduction to Data Science with R” or equivalent would be helpful.
Costs: McGill students: free of charge, McGill other: $ 50, external: $ 100 (priority given to McGill community)
The workshop will take about 2 hours with a 10 minutes break. The instructor is Tim Elrick.
