Day 1 of the GIC Summer Workshop Series will be an introduction to all things GIS! We will begin with a brief overview of what GIS offers and how you can incorporate the many functionalities of GIS into your research. The bulk of the practical content will focus on manipulating vector data. You will learn to use basic geospatial tools for vector data with one of the latest versions of QGIS. We will discuss different forms of selecting geospatial data, calculating geometric values and new field values, creating buffers, clipping and combining geospatial data. We will also discuss the differences between ArcGIS and QGIS in using these geospatial tools.
Costs: McGill students: free of charge, McGill other: $ 50, external: $ 100 (priority given to McGill community)
The workshop will take about 2 hours with a 15 minutes break. The instructor is Jeffery Sauer.
