Introduction to Remote Sensing with R

Free

Do you want to learn how you could use R to create a reproducible remote sensing workflow and analysis? This you your workshop. Please make sure you meet the prerequisites.

At the end of this workshop, you will be able to

  • search and download satellite images with R (e.g. Landsat8 and Sentinel)
  • work with satellite imagery in memory or when it is too big for memory
  • to create spectral indices (e.g. NDVI) and spectral profiles
  • to classify a satellite image

Pre-requisites? Basic understanding of remote sensing as can be gained, e.g. from GEOG308; good understanding of base R, e.g. from “R summer camp”.

If you want to be able to download images during the workshop you need to get your own accounts at USGS’s EROS and/or at ESA’s SciHub.
