Introduction to working with raster data in QGIS CANCELLED

QGIS is a free open-source software that offers an alternative to the ESRI ecosystem. It can create, edit, visualize, analyze and publish geospatial information on Windows, Mac, Linux, BSD and mobile devices.

By the end of this workshop, you will be able to

  • understand the principles of a GIS and the basics of geospatial data
  • understand the structure of QGIS and common raster data types used
  • run a raster calculation and map algrebra
  • import ASCII raster files
  • define and change a projection
  • combine rasters (mosaicking)
  • mask rasters (by shape & by values)
  • run Zonal statistics
  • calcualte a DEM including slope, aspect and hillshade
  • display and design a map

Prerequisite: none. If you want to work on your own laptop you need to install QGIS in the latest version on your computer beforehand from https://qgis.org/

This workshop will be held in person in Burnside Hall BH511 and takes about 2.5 hours. The instructor will be Lilly Lecanu-Fayet.
