GIC SERVICES

At the GIC we are specialized in supporting students, faculty and staff at McGill working with, analyzing and visualizing geospatial data – be it Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Remote Sensing (RS) or Geospatial Data Science.
Our front desk students support are available to support you virtually. You can get specialized support for map-making and everything related to ESRI's GIS products by our chief GIS technician Ruilan Shi, usually from 9 to 5. Director Tim Elrick support you in advanced geo-analytical tasks and geo-statistical questions; book your appointment by e-mail.

 

FALL 2022:

The GIC team will be offering online assistance through zoom. Book an appointment with us here: GIC Appointment Booking.

These sessions will be on weekdays from 8:30 to 5:30 (EDT) and on weekends from 12:00 to 16:00 (EDT)

Email us at gicsupport@mcgill.ca anytime to request the meeting link, putting GeoSupport in your subject line and explaining briefly what you would like to discuss in your message. You then can connect to our front desk in the next time slot listed above.

FIND GEOSPATIAL DATA

GET GEOSPATIAL SUPPORT

All McGill students, staff and faculty are entitled to one-year ArcGIS licence. Please contact Ruilan Shi at gicsupport@mcgill.ca to arrange delivery of your license. A valid McGill ID is required. The GIC team is here to support you in your work with GIS and remote sensing software as well as in Python and R. Click to see our workshops.

PRINT YOUR MAP OR POSTER

We can print your poster up to 36 inches in width. We recommend that your document’s resolution be set to at least 300 dpi. Fees (simple paper/high quality paper): McGill students for course requirements ($15/-), McGill community ($40/$60), External ($60/$80). Please contact Ruilan Shi at gicsupport@mcgill.ca or drop by her office.

HAVE US MAKE YOUR MAP

Our map making services are fee-based; however, we offer free map making workshops for McGill students with ArcGIS, QGIS and R. Please contact us for further enquiries. Click to get to our workshops.

ACQUIRE AERIAL IMAGERY

We offer flying our DJI Matrice 210 RTK with visual and thermal sensors for you. This way you can easily include aerial imagery in your research. We support you by planning the flight with you, acquiring the necessary permits and taking the imagery. Please contact the GIC director by e-mail or drop by at his office.

LOAN GEOSPATIAL EQUIPMENT

If you need geospatial equipment, the GIC has several different technologies available. These include: GNSS receiver, Samsung Galaxy and iPad tablets, and various teaching/field equipment. Please contact the GIC Director directly for more information.
